Detrended charts are a fantastic tool to analyse quantitative financial variables. In detrended charts we are removing the best fitting geometric trends from the data. In doing so, the investor can compare different periods of the history record at a glance and with the same scale. In this type of chart the value of the variable changes its meaning to a new meaning: the number of times the variable is over its average geometric growth. In the case of the fair value chart, we are detrending the depicted variables with respect to the price average geometric growth (and not with respect to the fair value). Detrending with respect to the price allows to judge price bubbles and crises on their own, without using the fair value. Thus, providing the investor with a fundamentally different tool.
